The OpenPOWER Research Facility (OPRF) was inaugurated on 18th August 2016 at Victor Menezes Convention Centre (VMCC), IIT Bombay. The following dignitaries were present on this auspicious day.

Along with the OPRF team, several other dignitaries from other Institute participated in this celebration and encouraged the Research Facility with their word of inspiration. The OpenPOWER Research Facility (OPRF) has been setup at the Systems and Control Engineering group, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. The facility enables research and innovation in the area of computing and applications, based on the Power CPU. The official ribbon cutting ceremony of the OpenPOWER Research Facility was held at Systems and Control Engineering Group, IIT Bombay. The chief guest was Prof. Rajat Moona, Director General, C-DAC.
The OPRF will help drive the country’s National Knowledge Network initiative which will interconnect all institutions of higher learning and research with a high speed data communication network, facilitating knowledge sharing and collaborative research and innovation. With the opening of OPRF, scientists, students, developers and enterprises who are a part of the National Knowledge Network initiative can tap into the latest and best available OpenPOWER-based infrastructure, including the POWER processor, NVIDIA GPU accelerators and Mellanox networking solutions. To begin with PhD scholars, MTech and Engineering students will tap into OPRF to develop new age applications and solutions around eGovernance, healthcare, education, agriculture and high performance computing.
